The Intermezzo Choir: A Harmonious Initiative for Individuals with Alzheimer's and Dementia

The House of Music Therapy is delighted to highlight the Intermezzo Choir, a unique and compassionate initiative that uses the power of music to provide support and community for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. Established in January 2020 by the Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers, the Intermezzo Choir has quickly become a beacon of hope and joy in Southwest Florida, offering a space for therapeutic musical experiences and much-needed respite for caregivers.

Led by Artistic Director Shannon Arnold and board-certified music therapist Molly Phillips, the choir meets for weekly rehearsals where members learn vocal techniques and engage in both familiar and new music. The Intermezzo Choir creates a warm, friendly environment for singers, caregivers, and volunteers alike to forge bonds, share experiences, and develop camaraderie through their love of music.

Molly Phillips, a dedicated and skilled music therapist, plays an essential role in ensuring the success of the Intermezzo Choir. With her expertise, she helps tailor the choir's activities to the specific needs and abilities of its participants. Her guidance ensures that everyone benefits from the therapeutic power of music, regardless of their cognitive or physical abilities. Her unwavering passion for enhancing the lives of individuals with Alzheimer's and related dementia has made her an invaluable asset to the choir.

The House of Music Therapy wholeheartedly supports the mission of the Intermezzo Choir and recognizes its immense value in the lives of those it touches. The choir provides not only a creative and emotional outlet for individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia but also a vital support network for care partners who often need respite and connection themselves. By fostering a sense of belonging and purpose, the Intermezzo Choir demonstrates the transformative impact that music therapy can have on the lives of those living with cognitive challenges.

As a staunch advocate for the power of music therapy, the House of Music Therapy is thrilled to promote the incredible work of the Intermezzo Choir and Molly Phillips. We encourage anyone who may benefit from this initiative to explore the opportunities it provides and to experience firsthand the joy and healing that can come from making music together.
